Immunity is the factor, which prevents the disease or in certain cases the severity of disease. In Ayurveda it is known by different synonyms like Ojas, Tejas, Prana, Bala etc. each emphasizing the importance of immune factor in the body.

Concept of ‘Ojas’

ओजस्तु तेजो धातूनां शुक्रन्तानां परं स्मृतं ॥
(अ. हृ. ११/३७)

Ojas is the essence of seven dhatus and is responsible for the strength of an individual.

तत्र रसादीनां धातूनां यत्परं तेजस्तता ।
खल्वोजस्तदेव बलमित्युच्यते स्वशास्त्रसिद्धान्तम् ॥
(सु. सू . १५ /२६)

Ojas is the essence of Rasadi dhatus, that is self is synonymed as bala acoording to the principles mentioned in classics.

Features of Ojas

ओजः सोमत्मकं स्निग्धं शुक्लं शीतं स्थिरम् सरं ।
विविक्तं मृदु मृत्स्नं च प्राणायतनमुत्तमम् ॥
(सु. सू. १५/२६)

Ojas is having mild quality like unctousness, cold, stable, spreading nature, pure, soft, slimy, white in colour and best among the seats of Prana that is Pranayatana.

हृदि तिष्ठति यत्छुद्धं रक्तं ईषत् सपीटकम् ।
ओजः शरीरे संख्यातं तन्नाशात् विनश्यति ॥
(च.सू.१७/७५)

Para ojas which is six drops (bindu) in quality resides in heart. It has reddish yellow colour, if it gets destroyed then there is destruction of whole body.
